Uncomfortable Fullness – Did I fail??

Jul 28, 2022

Have you been working hard on your food + body peace journey, but social occasions happening throughout the summer feel stressful? 😖

Intuitive Eating teaches you to “listen to your body” and many of us start with trying to “eat when you’re hungry” and “stop when you’re full.”

So it makes sense why ending up “uncomfortably full” (which can happen when there are a lot of yummy foods at social gatherings!) can feel like you “failed” to listen to your body’s cues.

But I have some gentle reminders for you!

👉 Intuitive Eating is NOT just about listening to your physical body cues. It’s ALSO about bringing back the joy and satisfaction of eating by dismantling the inner food police!

👉 If you’re working on incorporating your previously “off-limit” foods, it’s NORMAL to go through a period where you feel like you want a lot of it before your body starts to relax around it.

👉 Although paying attention to fullness IS a component of Intuitive Eating, that doesn’t mean you “failed” even if you find yourself uncomfortably full. Occasional overeating IS a part of “normal eating.”

👉 Make an intention to BE PRESENT and ENJOY the moment and the food instead of being in your HEAD.

👉 Remember that each eating opportunity is a NEW opportunity to practice listening to your body. There’s no “right” or “wrong.” There are only learning experiences! So take each opportunity to reflect and learn, not judge and shame yourself.

And if you want further support to navigate tricky situations like this and more, you can apply to my 1:1 Coaching Program.

I’d love to support you through the process of eating intuitively with confidence and treating your body with respect!
